Decembers Project of the Month is truly a one of a kind shower in the Master Bath suite in the home of Ron and Mary of West Knoxville.
The installation was done by Exact Tile's Danile Y.
Symmetrically patterned throughout, the beveled marble flows among glistening glass 2x2 dots and 2x8 hemp colored liner. The
wheelchair-accesible curb-less shower features a custom designed shallow drain flow. All of the flooring, including a dry-off area in the shower, the
towel warmer and seat are heated. Special consideration was taken at the entry threshold into this bathroom from hardwood flooring for a smooth
transition.
For this project the homeowner requested that all of the 8x8 tiles be cut down, rolled and polished to 4x4's. The procedure required
about two minutes per tile for polishing at 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 grit.
The main floor is 18x18 Chateau stones with an aged finish and were set on a diagonal and bordered by matching 9x18's. 12x12 tiles in
Dark Emperador were cut down to 2x2's and were used in the center of 4x4 mosiacs with (3) 1x1 hemp glass dots on each side.
In the shower, the 6x12 Chateau polished marble tile's bevel required extra time as the inside corners had to be mitered, not stacked.
Stepping from the dry area into the shower, the arched doorway caps had to be polished on both exposed ends and follow the contour of the beveled wall tiles, which also required chamferring.
Entering the dry area from the main floor, the tile at the arch had to be finished like door casing on the inside. Floor to ceiling, each tile was cut on a radius and polished to follow the contour of the arch.
The bench was centered in 18x18 aged marble. The niche was custom framed and tiled. The installation used 12x12 diagonal with 1x1 dots
throughout. The decorative detail consists of 2x12 Dark Emperador pencil rail. The design is reversed at the bottom. The ceiling is a straight pattern
with 8x8 Chateau stone with aged finish. Above the feature and up to the crown molding, 6x12 Chateau polished marble was once again stacked on a brick
set pattern.
Passing under the arch and looking back from the shower, the radius had to be established in order to duplicate both side symetrically.
The grouth used is TEC #940 Antique White and the entire area was sealed with Aquamix Gold Sealer.
Thank you Ron and Mary, we hope you enjoy this unique shower for many years to come.
